In-STEP: Capacity Building Program of Teacher Educators

It is being increasingly realized that teachers and those who educate them (teacher educators) are the key human resource in the education system, the quality of their preparation and on-going support is appropriate starting point of reforms. The challenge is to recognize and enhance the role of teachers and their educators in shaping the social transformation India is witnessing. The goal is to have collaborative engagement of the energies and resources of local, national, international communities and stakeholders to transform school and teacher education to build in quality, equity and inclusion, rigor and robustness, professional development, teacher learner resources and support services-academic, administrative and financial.

MHRD and USAID have formulated the In-STEP program (India Support to Teacher Education Program) under which 110 teacher educators from the Eastern and North Eastern part of the country will be undergoing a 3 month fellowship at Arizona State University with the clear purpose of understanding issues related to teacher education.

As a precursor to the visit of the participants to the In-STEP program, MHRD organized a 02 week orientation program (5th-16th august) as per schedule attached. The purpose was to expose the participants to the debate around issues of Teacher Education in India and facilitate interaction with academicians, experts and practitioners from the field.
